School Policies

Now that we are an official public charter school, attendance must be taken. Attendance is the first important key to your child’s school success and directly impacts our school’s public funding.

Attendance

  • The official school day begins at 8:15 am and ends at 5:00 pm.
  • Students will be marked tardy up to 8:45 am.
  • Any student who arrives after 8:45 am, without a legitimate doctor’s note, will be recorded as absent for the morning, but may remain for the rest of the day.
  • At 12:00 pm, attendance will be taken again.
  • Any student arriving after noon, up until 12:30 pm, will be marked tardy.
  • Students arriving after 12:30 pm will be marked absent for the afternoon but may remain for the rest of the day.
  • A pre-approved extended absence may be approved by the principal if the absence will be for more than 3 days. The form must be submitted before 4 weeks of the absence (birthday, family vacation, visa, passport, college visit.)
  • Other approved absences include illness, significant family emergencies (accidents, funerals, etc.), medical appointments (with a doctor’s note), extended illnesses (with a doctor’s note) religious holiday (with parent note), official severe weather warning.
  • Unexcused absences include car trouble or slow traffic, sleeping late, late parents.
  • All absences must be called into our main line (until our attendance line is established), 608.268.2004.
  • 4 or more unexcused absences in each trimester will require an investigation into truancy, pursuant to our truancy policy.
  • All students who arrive late must check-in at the front desk with Ms. Angelique, our Administrative Manager.

Drop-off/Pick-up

  • Students arrive between 8:00 am – 8:15 am.
  • Before and after school care is available; $25 for before school care and $50 for after school care. Any child arriving before drop-off time, 8:00 am, will be automatically assessed early care fees for that day.  Any child staying after 5:00 pm will be automatically assessed a fee for after school.
  • 4K: Parents escort their children to their classrooms where teachers will meet them.
  • 5K: Parents escort their children to the rear entrance and to the outside stairwell doors on the south side of the building. Please enter from the rear of the school.
  • 1st: Parents escort their children to the lower level meeting area where they will have breakfast together before going to class.
  • We will have staff to guide you on where to enter the building on your child’s first day.

Parking

  • The loading zone in the front of the school must remain open. Parked cars will be warned and ticketed.
  • Please find parking on the neighborhood streets or in the parking lot at Mount Zion Baptist church across the street from our school.

Schedules

  • Your child will receive the school schedule on their first day.
  • The official day starts at 8:15 am with a morning circle and breakfast.
  • Academics (EL, Super Kids, Eureka Math) and Anji Play continue throughout the morning.
  • Lunch will be served at 12:30 pm, followed by nap time.
  • After nap time, academics and Anji play resume.
  • Each Academy will run for 45 to 60 minutes five days per week, except early release Mondays.
